Southern Rail route starts work for second elephant underpass close to Coimbatore

The Southern Rail route has started works for the second underpass for wild elephants on the rail route line connecting Tamil Nadu and Kerala close to Coimbatore.

Two transitory supports were put on the ‘B’ line (of the ‘A’ and ‘B’ twin single line) among Ettimadai and Walayar stations on December 14, in the wake of suspending traffic through the line.

For the purposes of the construction, the Railways diverted nine trains to Coimbatore and two trains to Walayar via the “A” line.

Shoranur – Coimbatore MEMU (06804) and Coimbatore – Shoranur MEMU (06805) were cancelled.

Traffic through the ‘B’ line resumed after the successful placing of the two girders with inbuilt track at the location ‘KM 506/900 – 506A/00’.

Authorities with the Southern Railway and its Palakkad Division are intently checking the works. After the development of the substantial design, temporary girders will be supplanted by composite supports with track
